Citizen of the year -
Selection Process

From 1984 to 2001, the Citizen
of the Year was selected by acclamation, based on the
following criterion:
-
Member in good standing in the Society
-
Leadership in the Society
-
Conspicuous Service to the Community at Large
In 2001, a committee sat to
evaluate these criterion for selecting the Citizens of the Year.
These were revised in 2003, to broaden and expand this honor.
Irish-American Society of County Will Citizen
of the Year Award Selection Process
Qualifications:
A person of Irish-American descent who has significantly contributed to
the common weal (good);
A non Irish-American, from Will County, who has significantly contributed
to the Irish-American cause.
Procedure:
Nomination - Any paid-in-full member may nominate any person, in
writing, that fulfills the above qualifications.
Nominations should set forth the contributions of the nominee
All nominations must be received in writing by the July Board meeting of
the Society.
These nominations are referred to the Selection Committee for
investigation and recommendation to the election committee.
This timing of the presentation is to coincide with presentation at the
Annual Meeting / AwardsDinner.
The Election Committee selects the award recipients and instructs the
Honors & Degrees Chair to gain acceptance of the selectees.
Selection committee
- The Selection committee, by definition, shall consist of all past recipients
in good standing and past presidents, and is chaired by Honors and Degrees Chairperson.
Election committee:
The Election committee, by definition, shall consist of all past recipients
in good standing, the elected officers, and the board of directors, and is
chaired by Honors and Degrees Chairperson..
Nomination Procedure:
The number of actual recipients shall be determined by the Election
Committee.
The election of the recipients of the award shall be by simple majority
of all eligible voters present . The Honors and Degrees Chair shall have the
ability to, also, vote.
The proposed candidate(s) shall be selected on an individual basis of
worthiness (see qualifications).
The chairperson of Honors and Degrees is responsible to notify all award
recipients of the results in a timely fashion and to make arrangements for
the plaque(s).
After consideration of all candidates the committee shall notify the
general membership of the number of recipients for that year (i.e. whether
it be only one or more) and their name(s).
