Mural Postcard:
Mural Postcard

This postcard is a representation of the Irish Heritage Mural. K. Farrell and K. Scarboro designed the 10' x 20' mural for city of Joliet and the Irish American Society of Will County. The mural is on the wall across from the historic Joliet Public Library at Chicago and Clinton Streets in Joliet.

The mural depicts four scenes based on the nineteenth century immigration of the Irish to the Joliet area. The upper left corner depicts the quiet pastoral life in Ireland, with the thatched cottage and women sowing a field. The lower left scene shows a young immigrant quarrying rock for the I & M Canal, which runs through Joliet. The third scene shows three Knights of Labor, an early trade union, sitting outside of Callahan's Tavern (Buffet). The final shows a young woman and scenes from Joliet in the 1850's. The Church is old St Patrick's which once stood at Jefferson and Hickory Streets on the near west side.
